There is nothing quite as exciting as waiting and waiting and fiiinally getting a package when you've ordered something online.

In order to take advantage of some VIB sample rewards, I placed a Sephora order online (I usually just go in store, but they were completely out!). Yesterday, it finally arrived! I literally tear into that box like a little kid on Christmas. I just didn't want to wait one second longer!

One of the purchases I made is a product I've been eyeing for ages - Marc Jacobs Enamored Nail Polish in Petra (22$).

Petra is a dark stony bronze filled with shimmering particles - the colour is really hard to describe, you just need to know that its stunning! It's completely unique in my collection and I don't know how I possibly lived without it! Ok, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I am so obsessed with the complexity of this colour.

This nail polish paints on incredibly smoothly, no streaks and no fuss. It dries quite quickly as well -that's a plus! The perfect viscosity and ease of painting. The brush is really easy to use and the bottles are just soooo chic. I love them, although, they are a bit wide and awkward to store. The nail polish dries to a lovely shiny finish, I felt a bit silly putting a top coat over it. However, I did notice chipping quite quickly. That doesn't bother me too much since I change my polish so frequently but if you're looking for an ultra long-lasting nail colour, this isn't the best choice.

Overall, I can't stop staring at this colour. It's sophisticated and neutral but also shimmering and just liquid amazingness. It truly delivered, and at such a steep price, I expect nothing less.
I've always been a bit skeptical about a store's home brand. Despite being a major OPI lover 4eva, I was never a fan of the Sephora by OPI nail polish line sold at Sephora stores everywhere. They had an immense colour selection and lovely little bottles, I even got one for christmas once and was fairly happy with it! For some reason or another though, they just simply never clicked with me. So, when Sephora announced the launch of their all new nail polish and nail care line - Formula X - I was intrigued! Preliminary reviews were raving about them and the line-up was full of finishes and hues that I could drool over.

Ok, ok, enough backstory! I was on a hunt for the right "Radiant Orchid" nail polish shade and grabbed a pretty little bottle of Formula X - Gemini. The shade didn't turn out to be quite the colour I was looking for, but it's pretty nonetheless! It's a bright pink with strong purple undertones that reminds me of flower petals. It's fairly similar to OPI - If You Moust You Moust that I showed in a previous post but Gemini leans much more purple/orchid.

Despite the pretty colour, the most beautiful aspect of this polish is the formula. Oh god, I could write you an epic love poem about this formula. One-coat wonder. High shine. Quick drying. Long-lasting. Streak-free. Scratch that, I'm too dumbfounded to give you a full sentence about how amazing this nail polish is. Yep, it's amazing. That's all you're getting. I will definitely check out more of these shades because it literally gives me pleasure to paint them on. If you can, grab one in any colour you like and experience it for yourself!Siobhan Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00017204128327018428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611180705650833619.post-77766583933958982722014-06-30T16:07:00.002-07:002014-06-30T16:08:03.788-07:00OPI - Brisbane Bronze

Today's Nail of the Day is a permanent OPI colour which has been around for ages, although it's fairly new to me! I'm talking about Brisbane Bronze, a warm-toned red-flecked bronze metallic polish that it perfect for the summer and fall.

It's warm and glowy, imbibed with sunlight and heat. Add together a plain T, some jeans, a whiff of Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess and this nail polish, and you've got yourself a pretty little summer get-up.

The formula is near perfect, you could almost get away with one-coat. The brushstrokes even out, which can be a problem with most metallics. The formula isn't too thick or too thin, a nice goldilocks compromise! This is part of the permanent line and if you're interested in these sort of copper-penny colours, I highly recommend picking one up!Siobhan Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00017204128327018428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611180705650833619.post-30086114182325983372014-06-30T15:58:00.001-07:002014-06-30T16:07:54.282-07:00China Glaze - For Audrey

Another cult favourite dancing on the digits today - China Glaze For Audrey! This polish is the closest to a perfect Tiffany Blue that I've ever been able to find, and rightfully so with a name like For Audrey. (Although, as much as I adore Audrey Hepburn and however much I love Tiffany's, I've never been able to sit through Breakfast at Tiffany's in one go... anyone else have this problem?).

I love this Tiffany blue, slighty dusty aqua polish for spring and summer, although I do pull it out all year-round. The formula was a tad bit of a disappointment, unfortunately, it streaked and pulled bald patches. All-in-all, I needed 3 coats and was still not entirely happy with the results, poo! :(

The colour of this polish is its bread and butter - you only need this if you're as desperate for a Tiffany blue as I was.Siobhan Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00017204128327018428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611180705650833619.post-12338976201781896772014-06-17T14:20:00.001-07:002014-06-30T16:00:15.775-07:00OPI - If You Moust You Moust

In my opinion, OPI does the best pink nailpolishes. Ever. Today, I'm wearing one of my favourite pinks for Spring and Summer - OPI If You Moust You Moust.

If You Moust You Moust was released as part of the 2012 Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection. How can you say no to a Minnie Mouse Collection!? It's a pretty, cool-toned pink creme. It's a bright, happy colour - much more flattering on my skintone than the warm pinks that tend to be popular this time of year. It reminds me of little Barbie shoes, so cute!

The formula is alright, a bit streaky and watery. It takes two coats to get decent coverage. It's a unique pink in my collection and I don't have anything to compare it to. If you're into pops of pretty pink, I really like this one!Siobhan Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00017204128327018428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611180705650833619.post-23293255130676039282014-06-16T15:46:00.000-07:002014-06-30T16:00:52.618-07:00Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush - Dollface + Tipsy

Hello, I'm Siobhan and I'm a Blush Addict... I should probably go to some sort of support group to curb my incessant need to keep buying blushes. I mean, I only have two cheeks! Today I have two of my newer additions to gush about - two cult favourites: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blushes in the shades Tipsy and Dollface!

These blushes have been around forever and they have a lot of hype around them. At first glance, they are really adorable and I've always been drawn to their packaging. I really appreciate when a product's packaging is the same colour as the product within it - it makes my life way easier when rummaging through my overflowing blush draw trying to find a particular shade. I believe Tarte is releasing these same blushes in new packaging that doesn't have any frills or decorative bits - sleek but a bit boring.

Tarte Blush Packaging

The formula for these blushes are supposedly sun-baked and nutrient rich to create smooth, long-wearing colour. In terms of formula, I think these blushes really deliver. I can't attest to the "12-Hour" part, but they do last allllll day, especially if layered over a cream blush. For a powder blush, they don't look particularly powdery or cakey on the face. The pigmentation is phenomenal - Dollface is a bit easier to wear and build up, whereas caution is definitely needed with Tipsy in order to prevent clown-face.

Dollface is a cool-toned classic pink that I reach for all year long and really does create pretty little doll cheeks. It's also completely matte.

Tipsy is an orange-based coral with slight shimmers (although it definitely does not look glittery). I love this in the summer with a tan and a coral lip. It's fun and colourful but also natural at the same time, it really brightens up your face.

Overall, I plan on grabbing a few more of these bad boys when I can find an excuse to buy more blush...They're great quality, come in beautiful shades and packaging, and at $31 a pop, they are middle of the road for high-end blushes.

Essie - Ole Caliente

Today I'm rocking one of my favourite Essie polishes and one of my favourite nail colours for Summer! I originally tried this polish in a mini set from Essie's 2012 Navigate Her Spring Collection. I emptied that mini in a snap and scooped up a full size because I just can't be without it!

Essie Ole Caliente is a vibrant, almost-but-not-quite neon orange-red creme - can red even be neon?? It's bright, hot and spicy. It's flattering when I'm very pale and when I have a bit of a tan. It is my all-time favourite pedicure colour too.

The real selling point on this polish, however, is the formula. We're talking about the much sought after one-coat wonder! Smooth, silky, opaque. It's perfect. Couldn't dream up a better formula than this one! If every nail polish applied like this, I would know I was in heaven.

Despite this being an old Limited Edition colour, I have seen it available at a handful of salons and beauty supply stores. If you can find one, I highly recommend grabbing one!Siobhan Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00017204128327018428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611180705650833619.post-90060404115839788822014-06-05T19:34:00.004-07:002014-06-08T09:38:28.564-07:00OPI - Can't Find My Czechbook

OPI - Can't Find My Czechbook

It's hard to go wrong with OPI, and this beautiful blue from their Euro Centrale 2013 Collection is the perfect blend of pastel and brights for the transition into summer.

OPI Can't Find My Czechbook is a dusty take on the typical bright summer aqua and it's a lovely colour. The formula is smooth and creamy, opaque in two coats. It's not streaky unlike a lot of blue polishes. I think this particular shade of blue would be flattering on a lot of skintones, especially with the bronze and gold tones that are always popular for summer.

Overall, I think this is a nice and easy polish to apply and wear for Spring/Summer!

Summer Scents

Scents have such a strong impact on human memory. Scents can make you happy or sad, they can bring you back to people you used to know or memories you once had. This is why I think it's so important to find scents you love and that express who you are to those around you. I've rounded up some of my favourite perfumes to wear when the weather starts to warm.

I've always been very sensitive to smells - many give me excruciating headaches, cause me to sneeze and my eyes to swell, or in the worst case scenario, will actually cause me to rash. Ew. For these reasons, I always find it hard to commit to perfume - they definitely aren't cheap! I never, ever buy a perfume without getting a sample first. Don't be afraid to ask - most places are very helpful and willing to give you samples and scent recommendations. I also like to try several perfumes and rollerballs are my best friend. If I can, I usually go through a rollerball or two before I purchase a full-size. They're much cheaper, much smaller, and I feel less guilty about stockpiling several of them!

Fresh Hesperides, D&G Light Blue, Armani Acqua di Gioia

Blue seems to be the colour combo for fresh summer perfumes... I gravitate towards fresh, citrus or floral scents for the warmer months and these fit the bill perfectly.

Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit Eau de Parfum is exactly what it sounds like - a grapefruit perfume. Fresh, crisp and supposedly attractive to the opposite sex, grapefruit invokes a vibrant citrus note without being reminiscent of cleaning supplies. It supposedly has notes of Lemon, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Lotus, Jasmine, and Peach (although I really only smell the grapefruit).

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is a classic bestselling perfume. This perfume is absolutely sensational. It transports you to fantasies of expensive vacations yachting in the Mediterranean. It has Lemon, Bluebells, Granny Smith Apple, Jasmine, Bamboo, White Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, and Musk. It's definitely crisp and airy, a tinge aquatic, but the deep musk notes make it seem oh so sophisticated and sensual. Plus, the rollerball size of this scent is actually a travel spray with a spritzer rather than a ball.

Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia is not nearly as fresh and citrusy as the previous two. It leans more masculine and aquatic. I actually bought this one after I bought my boyfriend Armani Acqua di Gio and could not get enough of it on him. According to Sephora, it has notes of Mint, Brown Sugar, Lemon, Jasmine, Peony, Pink Pepper, Cedar Wood, and Labdanum. It's a bit less chic and a bit more outdoorsy. Kinda reminds me of a lived-in outdoorsy type of sexy, if you know what I mean. Like you were jogging on a beach or something.

Marc Jacobs Daisy

Marc Jacobs Daisy is my all-time favourite perfume. I wear it all year round but I think it really reaches its full glory in the Spring and Summer. It's light, feminine, and floral. It has notes of Strawberry, Violet, Grapefruit, Gardenia, Jasmine, Musk, Vanilla and White Woods. This perfume makes me want to twirl in flowery fields in sundresses. It makes me feel pretty and youthful and happy. Plus, the bottle looks oh so cute on my dressing table!

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess is the complete opposite of Marc Jacobs Daisy. It's warm and spicy, highlights the heat of summer days on the beach and even hotter summer nights. The scent is a bit sparkling at first with Mandarin and Bergamot. It dries down to notes of Magnolia, Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Coconut, Caramel, Sandalwood, Amber, and Vetiver. The coconut stands out to me, it really reminds me of sunscreen and tanning. This perfume bottles the idea of sexy summer skin and makes me feel confident and gorgeous. This perfume is released every summer in different bottles. This year's bottle is metallic gold and very hard to photograph...

Right now, I have my eyes on a few more perfumes to add to my collection, primarily Bvlgari Omnia Coral which, after emptying several samples, I really truly love. Maybe a new purchase is in order!

Everyday Make Up Basics

Today, I decided to give everyone a glimpse into one of my most prized possessions - my everyday make up bag. While my eye liners, blushes, and lipsticks tend to get changed out fairly regularly, I do have a set of products that are always on hand. They're easy to grab when I want a fuss-free face or I need an overnight bag quickly. So today I present my everyday basics, the items I use frequently and always have on hand.

Benefit The Porefessional Primer ($37) is my go-to primer all year. I wear it on my t-zone every single day. I love the smell, the texture, the flawless finish. In the spring and summer when I crave a dewier glow, I add in my Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance ($40) on my cheekbones and temples. It's a sheer, slightly tinted illuminating primer that adds some glow to my face and wakens dull skin. It's a bit shiny/greasy looking so I avoid it on my t-zone.

Lately, I've been loving the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Terre Neuve ($49). It's sheer and glowy, letting my summer freckles show through but it has enough coverage to even out my complexion and give a nice finish. It also has SPF 30 to protect against those harmful rays. It has a bit of a strange lemon scent to it but it doesn't linger and I don't find it too overbearing.

I've been experimenting with drugstore concealers for the last little while and am quite enjoying the L'Oreal Paris Tru Match Concealer for blemishes and redness on the face. For my undereyes, which are definitely my most prominent features during the school year, I enjoy the Benefit Erase Paste ($32). The salmon tones conceal blue bags nicely, and the creamy formula is easy to blend.

In the sweltering summer months, my t-zone gets quite oily and I love the Clinique Stay Matte Sheer Pressed Powder in Stay Buff ($27). It's a great match for my skintone, doesn't get cakey, and is lovely and blotting away any shiny spots. As an overall finishing powder, I am absolutely obsessed with my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light ($52). This powder is so finely milled and luxurious. It seems to diffuse all imperfections away and adds a flattering light to your skin.

For an easy on-the-go make up, I grab my NARS Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm/Laguna ($50). You just can't go wrong with these two classic shades. I have a mini Benefit Watts Up Highlighter ($36) from a Sephora Birthday Gift that I just adore and keep handy.

I groom my brows with a bit of Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Dark Brown ($30) and an angled brush, topped with Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara that doubles as a brow gel.

For eyes, I love my Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler and the YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Babydoll ($36) - although I try quite a few mascaras and change up my favourites fairly frequently. I have two Maybelline Color Tattoos in Bad to the Bronze and Barely Branded that I use as a base for the majority of my eye looks.

Lastly, I always prime my lips with my Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. On hand, in my everyday bag, I usually keep my two favourite neutral lipsticks in MAC Peach Blossom and Syrup ($19).

Now, my favourites change all the time but I would feel a bit lost without these.
I really love the look of a bright, bold lip. I think it exudes confidence and playfulness - plus the colours truly are amazing! I don't always feel entirely comfortable rocking the bright lip all year round but there is something about the summer heat that makes all things bright and colourful, fair play. Here are a handful of my favourite brights to grab when I'm feeling bold this summer.

Covergirl Lipperfection Lipcolor - Flame

Covergirl Lipperfection Lipcolor - Flame. This budget buy is a bright corally-red that is highly pigmented and applies very opaquely. This is like the playful sibling of a classic red lip - it stands out but doesn't look crazy. I always get compliments on this one. The formula is a bit drying and can cling to dry spots so make sure to exfoliate and moisturize beforehand.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Color - Satsuma

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon - Satsuma ($28). This may be my favourite bright lip shade ever. It's a cool toned fuchsia that brightens and flatters my pale complexion beautifully. The matte finish isn't super matte or flat looking but it does help the colour feel more wearable for day. It comes in a classic matte twist-up pencil tube that is super convenient. Bonus: it lasts a long time on the lips too! The formula is smooth and smells amaaaazing - very citrusy. Bite Beauty is known for their luxury, food-quality ingredients and this product is beautiful in both its colour and formula.

Rimmel Apocalips - Apocalyptic

Rimmel Apocalips - Apocalyptic. This raspberry pink is bright- and I mean BRIGHT. It is a warm-toned raspberry colour that, like the Covergirl lipstick, is a fun alternative to a bright red. It applies almost like a gloss, with a doe-foot applicator, but it dries to more of a liquid lipstick finish. There is so much pigment in this, you only need one light coat. It does transfer allllll over the place though, that's probably the only downside. It gets on your teeth, your cups, your food, and if you aren't careful, I'm sure it could make you look a bit like a spacecase with lipstick smeared all over your face.

Dior Addict Gloss - Exquise

Dior Addict Gloss - Exquise ($31). Ok, I'm going to need to do an entire separate post on this one. I adore this gloss. Exquise was a limited edition colour that was part of the Dior Spring Trianon Collection. I am instantly obsessed with anything Trianon, Versailles, or Marie Antoinette inspired and so I had to have this. It's a cool-toned hot pink gloss that has a fair amount of colour to it with plenty of shine. The applicator is a tiny little brush that I actually like, it helps apply this product very precisely. The tube is the classic Dior Addict packaging that looks oh so luxe. This is creamy, not sticky, and has shine for days. Perfect gloss, on its own or over another lipstick. It is, indeed, exquise.
As I said before in my "Live.Love.Carnaval" post, I fell in love with the OPI Brazil Collection the moment I saw it. OPI I Just Can't Cope-Acabana was one of the polishes I decided I had to have from the collection. It's a bright summer sunshine yellow creme, not too golden, not too pastel. Just pure, happy yellow.

Yellow nails have never been a fashion go-to for me. Yellow was one of my high school colours and so yellow nails always meant "pep rally" or "big game" for me. In my high school hunt for bright yellow nails, I have learned that yellow may be the hardest nail polish to get a good formula. They tend to be sheer, streaky, or grossly thick and hard to work with. This yellow was a different story altogether, it was quite a dream to paint on!

Smooth, good coverage in two coats, bright pigmentation. I Just Can't Cope-Acabana is the best yellow I've ever applied. The colour on its own is beautiful - vibrant and sunny. I am not sure how flattering it is on me or how much I like it against my skintone but I imagine it would be gorgeous next to a tan. If you're on the hunt for a great yellow for summer, this is the best one I can recommend!Siobhan Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00017204128327018428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611180705650833619.post-27752451016497689362014-06-03T09:23:00.000-07:002014-06-03T09:24:00.825-07:00Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15

I mentioned this holy grail lip product in my previous post about my favourite lip treatments but I don't think that all of the amazingness of this product could be contained in such a small mention - so I've decided to dedicate an entire post to the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments are smooth, silky lip balms that apply like a dream. They are very soft and almost melt onto the lips. They feel very luxurious and you can feel them well into the day. They do sort of hover on the lip, rather than sinking in completely, but I prefer this formula since it creates a strong barrier between the lips and the environment, keeping them plump and protected all day. They smell faintly like sugared lemon which is just heavenly. They also have SPF 15 to protect your pucker from the sun.

All of the shades in this product line have the same sophisticated packaging, just in different colours. The tubes are metal and quite strong but sleek. The lid twists onto the base, preventing any slips or mishaps that can ruin your purse or the product.

The original Fresh Sugar in its classic bronze packaging is what I use every single day. It's a plain, clear, trustworthy balm.

L-R: Coral, Rose, Petal, Honey

Fresh Sugar Coral comes in a bright coral red tube. It is one of the more pigmented ones in the line and applies a shiny red coral shade on the lips. It is more like a lipstick than a sheer balm in the colour department but it maintains the silky balm feel. I love this for summer.

Fresh Sugar Rose is one of the sheerest tinted balms and applies a sheer rose red. I love this one on an everyday basis as well, the hint of tint really livens and awakens the face. I've gone through a couple tubes of this one.

Fresh Sugar Petal is a mauve-toned dusty rose that is more opaque than Fresh Sugar Rose but more neutral. This one is pretty and simple, can't go wrong with it.

Fresh Sugar Honey is a brown-based neutral that looks lovely with heavier eye makeup. It's not heavy or opaque so it never looks "dead" or "concealer lippy". It's a very easy to wear neutral brown.

I have yet to try Sugar Tulip (VIB exclusive), Cherry, Passion, Berry, or Plum but I plan to add them to the collection ASAP.
One of my must-have products year-round is Lip Balm. So basic and boring, I know. But if you've ever had the unfortunate experience of spending a day, especially a cold Canadian winter day, without your trusty lip treatment, you know how much of a difference it makes.

I'm the kind of girl who has a different chapstick in every pocket of every bag...as well as on my desks, at home and at school, and on the table next to my bed. I lose and repurchase these little things more than any other item in my life! Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point.

The Budget Buys

For the everyday nooks and crannies, the product that I always have but am not too afraid of losing or ruining, is good ol' Soft Lips Lip Balm. You can't go wrong with this stuff: it's cheap, its small, it smells great, and it works! I could probably dig up half a dozen of these floating around my apartment...

Another cult favourite, with adorable packaging, that I have several of is EOS Lipbalm. I don't think these are the most moisturizing and probably aren't your best bet to fix severely chapped lips. However, they are good at maintaining your lips throughout the day and their texture is optimal for layering under lipsticks - which is how I use them, for the most part. They help stop lipsticks from sticking to dry patches or aggregating in any fine lip lines. Plus they are just so darn cuuuute!

The Luxe Treat

When I'm feeling like treating myself, a high end lip treatment transforms an everyday necessity into a little mini pamper session. Here are a few that I will buy over and over again:

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 (26$). I freaking LOVE this stuff. I must have one of these with me at all times, or I go a little crazy. I fell in love with these little wonders when I received a duo of minis from Sephora for my birthday. The mini products are very decent sizes, with the same incredible packaging as the full size products, and, around the holidays, tons of awesome sets can be found for good deals. Plus, they make excellent gifts!

I use the original formula on a daily basis, and am on my third or fourth tube. It's smooth, thick, emollient, and has a slightly lemony smell. The product is very soft (it will melt if you leave it anywhere hot, like your car!) and you can feel it on your lips for hours. Bonus, it has SPF 15 to protect your lips from nasty burns (Have you ever gotten a sunburn on your lips? It's awful.) I think I may be a little bit addicted to the feel of this product, honestly. The Fresh Lip Sugars are available in plenty of shades, all with the same luxe formula but with a hint of tint. They are cased in beautifully simple and chic metal packaging, with a screw-on lid to avoid any messy mishaps in your purse!

Dior Addict Lip Glow

Dior Addict Lip Glow (35$). This one is a bit of a splurge at 35$ CAD but I assure you, it's worth it. At first, I assumed this product was a bit of a gimmick. It claims to "waken and enhance the natural beauty of your lips with this unique balm. Formulated with color reviver technology, this silky lipstick reacts with the chemistry of your lips to create a special shade that will last all day." So, basically, it's a mood ring for your mouth! Hmm... Well, I caved and bought one, and can't stand to be without it since. It does make my lips a beautiful natural shade of shiny pink (nothing too over the top) but it works miracles on my lips themselves. The product applies like a lipstick and almost instantly any problem areas on my lips just seem to dissolve and disappear. They're left smooth, silky, and plump. Plus, it has a yummy mint-vanilla scent. This is the one I grab when my lips are in dire need of saving, as well as when I just want a soft everyday lip colour.
Dior Creme de Roses Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm (29$). You've been living under a rock if you've never heard of this one - it seems to be a favourite of every YouTuber/Beauty Blogger in the last several years. I bought it after hearing it hyped for so long and I really do like it. It smells like roses, it's a beautiful pink shade, and it lives in the simplest, prettiest lip balm jar ever. Plus, it feels amazing on the lips. It's like your lips just know they're wearing Dior and they are loooving it. I haven't noticed any plumping effects from it and I don't think it's particularly smoothing either. It does, however, moisturize and soothe my lips after a long day. I keep this on my bedside table and apply generously before bed every night. In the mornings, I can still feel traces of it on my lips and it starts everything off nicely for the day. Siobhan Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00017204128327018428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611180705650833619.post-14224566791576211692014-06-02T09:58:00.003-07:002014-06-02T21:22:20.922-07:00Essie - Watermelon

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend - I just got back from a weekend of sailing and sunning (a bit too much sun - my shoulders are quite crispy) and wanted a bright, summery nail colour to suit.

Essie Watermelon is an Essie classic - and I think there needs to be a bottle of it in every nail polish collection!

Watermelon is a deep reddish pink creme that is bright, warm, and playful - definitely reminiscent of a delicious slice of watermelon on a hot day. It's a sophisticated pink. It's still fun and summery, but not an obnoxious hot pink. It's almost like a classic red but the added pink tones make it more lively and day-friendly. Mmmm juicy!

This Essie polish is one of the best Essie formulas I've tried so far (and I've tried quite a few Essies...). The formula is creamy and smooth, almost a perfect one-coat-wonder! It doesn't pool or run. There are no streaks and no overall funny business here. Applies like a dream! Like most creme Essies, it chips fairly quickly. This can be lessened with a good base and top coat.

If you are looking for an interesting, slightly off beat summer pink, you can't go wrong with this one!

Essie Neons 2014 - Too Taboo

The other day, I was running low on toothpaste and zipped off to the drugstore to get some. While I was there, I was having a casual browse through the cosmetics aisle (as us beauty lovers have want to do), and I spotted the new Essie Neons 2014 display. The gravitational pull was instant!

I grabbed a polish in the shade "Too Taboo"- a bright fuchsia that had my name written all over it. The photos of this polish don't quite grasp the true colour of it, it has much more purple in it.

The formula on this one was a bit of a disappointment for me. Essie nail polishes tend to be a bit hit-or-miss and, in the formula department, this was a miss. The first coat applied extremely unevenly and streaky. The formula was a strange watery-jelly mix that is hard to explain. If you try to apply another coat before the first coat is completely dry, you get a lot of balding and pulling - ew! Not a cute look.

Like a lot of neon polishes, this dries to a semi-matte finish (shown below) and it dries quite quickly. A nice shiny top coat brings the colour to its true glory!
Overall, I like this polish. My adoration for the bright colour (I wouldn't exactly say it was a "neon", however) trumps the frustrations of the formula but stops it from being a love. Not sure if I'll be rushing out to grab any others from the collection anytime soon.

The MAC lipstick counter was always a bit overwhelming to me - so many colours and finishes to choose from! The huge selection is one of the reasons I imagine MAC lipsticks have such a cult following in the makeup and beauty world.

I have 5 MAC lipsticks to my name, which may not be much to some collectors but it's enough for me (for now...), and I love each of them oh so much.

All of my MAC lipsticks are from the permanent collection and come dressed in their sleek, sophisticated classic black bullet and smell deliciously like vanilla mmmmm... They retail for $19 CAD each.

Chatterbox (Amplified)

My very first MAC lipstick ever was Chatterbox, an Amplified finish. It's a bright warm-toned pink lipstick that applies very opaque and smoothly. I love this colour for summer because it looks nice with gold and tan tones. However, the Amplified formula, though it does apply beautifully, can emphasize dry skin and fine lines on the lips so make sure you exfoliate with this one!

Spice It Up! (Lustre)

Spice It Up! is one of my must-haves for Fall/Winter - a warm spicy brown-toned red with a Lustre finish. The semi-sheer, glossy Lustre finish is what makes this bold colour very wearable for day, in my opinion. It doesn't apply too bold but is still richly pigmented. It can apply a bit unevenly at first, but this is lessened if you wear a balm under it.

Peach Blossom (Cremesheen)

Peach Blossom was originally launched in a Limited Edition collection but has recently been brought out as part of MAC's permanent line - lucky us! Peach Blossom has a Cremesheen formula and is one of my go-to everyday neutrals. It's warm and, as the name would suggest, peachy, a nice "my lips but better" shade for spring.

Costa Chic (Frost)

Costa Chic is one of my go-to summer lipsticks - and apparently many other people's as well! Despite being part of the permanent line, it took me forever to get my hands on this one. It was always sold out at every MAC counter I could get to. It's my only Frost finish MAC lipstick but it doesn't wear in any way I would describe as "frosty". The sunlight brings out a bit of the metallic/shimmery finish but otherwise it just reads as a creamy, orangey coral that brightens the skin and really complements a tan.

Syrup (Lustre)

Last but not least is my absolute favourite MAC lipstick and one of my most worn lipsticks ever, Syrup. Syrup is a mauve-toned neutral that's very flattering, especially on pale skin. It's a Lustre finish, so it's fairly glossy and smooth and I loooove it. I must have this one with me, always.

OPI - Live.Love.Carnaval

I have and will always have a soft spot in my heart for OPI.

I've coveted the swanky iconic bottles for as long as I can remember but it wasn't until I moved from my hometown to Montreal that I could get my hands on one - I practically reverted to being a little girl who had just been given the shiniest, sparkliest present. That's how much I loved my first bottle of OPI nail polish. Since then, I've become a bit of a nail polish junkie and have racked up quite a collection... now, nothing excites me more than a new OPI release!

When OPI announced their Brazil Collection for Spring/Summer 2014, I was practically drooling over the classic neutrals and the poppy brights. I ended up restraining myself as best I could and picked up only 3 from the collection - I Just Can't Cope-acabana, Don't Bossa Nova Me Around, and Live.Love.Carnaval. I'm wearing the latter today and can't wait to show all of you!

Live.Love.Carnaval is a creamy, bright coral that leans pink in the sunlight but tends more orange inside. It's bright, bold and hot hot hot for summer! I imagine this would look amaaaazing with a tan (not that I would know!). The formula is exquisite, spreads nicely and smoothly without making a big messy pool around my cuticles. It has fairly good coverage in only one stroke but for complete opacity, I opt for two. It's shown above using a base coat of OPI Nail Envy and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat.

In my collection, OPI Live.Love.Carnaval is very similar to OPI I Eat Mainely Lobster although I Eat Mainely Lobster is a tad more muted and contains tiny (almost invisible) microglitter.

Update: I've been wearing this polish more than any other polish this summer and every single time, people compliment it and ask about it. Definitely a gorgeous statement nail for summer!Siobhan Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00017204128327018428noreply@blogger.com0
